Figurative Abstraction
Artist Statement:
My work is best categorized as Figurative Abstraction, taking hints from abstraction and surrealism to create
a singular style. Recurring themes of daily life, self, memories and place deconstructed to their core emotion. While neither running towards or from figuration, it’s a dance or balance that allows for a deeper description of the state of the subject.
Similar to the synesthetic musician who hears in color or shapes, I create with the intention of describing my mood or reality with color and distortion. Drawing inspiration from my predecessors such as Aloïse Corbaz, Marsden Hartley and Marc Chagall. My work
is mixed media, as I heavily rely on mark making with mediums such as but not limited to sharpie, oil paint, colored pencils, pastel, candle wax and charcoal.
